Northern Lights In Lapland
As summer fades in Finnish Lapland, the sky begins to shift. From late August to early April, the long, dark nights offer a chance to witness one of nature’s most magical displays: the Northern Lights. Also known as Aurora Borealis, these colorful lights appear when solar particles collide with Earth’s atmosphere.
When and Where to See the Aurora
Lapland is among the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights. The season begins in late August, once the nights grow dark enough, and continues until early spring. Each part of the season offers something unique:
• In autumn, the aurora often reflects on open lakes
• In midwinter, snowy landscapes make the sky seem even brighter
• In early spring, cold and clear conditions remain ideal for spotting the lights
On average, the Northern Lights are visible in Lapland on around 200 nights a year.

Tips for Aurora Watching
To improve your chances of seeing the Northern Lights:
• Stay away from artificial light
• Choose a night with clear skies
• Watch the sky between 10 PM and 2 AM
• Dress warmly and be patient
• Download a Northern Lights alert app
The aurora can appear suddenly and without warning, often when you least expect it. Having an alert system helps you catch it at just the right moment.

Experience It in Comfort
While many head out into nature to see the lights, it’s also possible to experience the aurora in comfort. At Glass Resort, you can enjoy the Northern Lights from your own outdoor Hot Spring Spa or watch the sky through panoramic windows, wrapped in warmth after a day outdoors. Whether you’re walking under the stars or watching from indoors, the Northern Lights in Lapland leave a lasting impression.
